Next week I start another summer internship with Spaceport America. This time there’s an actual office (last time we were housed in the Governor’s conference room), but I don’t really know what I’ll be doing. I’m sure it will be great fun, whatever it is. I’ll keep y’all posted.
Speaking of which, I just created a Twitter account. See my latest tweets in the sidebar, or on Twitter itself, of course. I’m @gdunge.
I am currently studying at Western Technical College in El Paso, TX and really looking to do an externship or internship at Spaceport. I have been trying to find contact information for the person I would need to speak to in order to initiate this and have been unsuccessful in my attempts. Would you be able to provide me with information ? Or pass my contact email along to that person : Ismusic@live.com thank you much
Hi Ismael,
My Summer 2008 internship with Spaceport America was under Lou Gomez.
My Summer 2009 internship was under Aaron Prescott.
Summer 2010 they didn’t have an internship program, so I got an internship at NASA White Sands Test Facility.
My Summer 2011 internship application with Spaceport was denied, but I had a choice between the Air Force Research Labs in Albuquerque and WSTF again. I chose WSTF because I had a great time there, and I wanted to extend the work I had been doing. And I lived right there and wouldn’t need to relocate for the summer.
Anyway, my Spaceport America info is out of date. Both Lou and Aaron are still there as far as I know, but I don’t know about internships. You can turn up their contact info from the spaceportamerica.com website – use the Search function.
My guess is that Aaron’s the internship guy, but he’s really terrible about returning email or phone calls.
Have you called the main number and asked the receptionist? She will know what you need to do. Contact info is on their website:

Here’s what I’d recommend. Put on a nice suit, drive up to Las Cruces, go to the Spaceport offices (they’re on University Avenue and Espina) and ask to talk to someone about an internship. Everyone there’s really nice. If they like you they’ll work on figuring out how to get you an internship there. Hand out resumes, ask what they need help with right now, tell them how you can help them with it.
Good luck, and keep me posted!
