Congratulations on the internship, Doug. Sounds like you had a good time and contributed to the effort. I haven’t communicated with you in a while. Joni, Sarah, and I are living still living in Northern Virginia, DC suburbs. I work in the renewable energy sector for a company called Terra-Gen Power (www.terra-genpower.com), heading up development. We are the third largest geothermal company in the US, second largest solar company, and quite respectable in the wind energy area as well. I sympathize with your wind prediction task – being in this area, it ain’t easy! Long-term, the Spaceport will need at least one, and probably several, met towers. They will cost around $35k each to install, with all the necessary equipment. However, you may be able to scrounge some used ones, particularly those which are 30 M or less (wind energy projects need higher towers, so those greater than 30 M are in highest demand).
Anyway, hope you and Anna are doing well, as well as your parents. Drop me a line sometime – I’d love to hear how you are doing. My undergraduate is in engineering (and I was once a Professional Engineer!), so I sympathize with the course load!
